The confidence to serve …

Serving others isn’t something that is done from a position of weakness. Instead, it’s something we choose to do from a position of confidence.

Just like Jesus.

“Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God,” John 13:3.

The late professor, Howard Hendricks, noted this about Jesus: “There was no identity crisis in the life of Jesus Christ. He knew who He was. He knew where He had come from, and why he was here. And He knew where He was going. And when you are that liberated, then you can serve.”

The same is true for us — we know who we are, sons and daughters of God. We know where we come from, creations of God made in His image. We know why we’re here, to worship, glorify, and enjoy God, and to fulfill His mission as ambassadors of Jesus Christ. And we know where we are going, to be forever with our Lord when He returns for us.

When we’re that liberated, then we can serve!
