Hefner leaves a legacy of sexual sin, what will you leave?

Some say we judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions. It’s easy to overlook, disguise, or try to hide our own flaws, weaknesses, and sins while finding the same in others to be so glaringly unavoidable.

Take, for example, the life of Hugh Hefner, founder of Playboy Magazine and the corporate empire it spawned. Hefner died last night at the age of 91, leaving a legacy that’s being described as the man who ushered in a sexual revolution in America. What is obvious is that he really left a legacy of sin, having spent decades getting rich by titillating the sinful sexual desires among the largest possible audience he could create.

It’s easy to point a finger at Hefner for his obvious public sins, but will our spiritual legacies be any better? It doesn’t have to be public, flagrant sexual sin that wrecks the measure of a life, any sin will do. Unless a person is born again, not only will he not see the kingdom of God (John 3:3), but without the saving grace of God there go you and I …

“Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God,” 1 Corinthians 6:11.

When you and I stand before God, it won’t be our intentions He uses to judge us, it will be our actions. For you, will that be one of sincere confession and repentance, having been baptized into Christ, and walking daily with the Lord as His disciple? Or will it be a legacy of sin that you intended to do something about some day?
