Christian, there’s someone watching you …

Christian, there’s someone watching you … and it’s time to thank him for doing so!

It may have been a while since you last gave any serious thought to your personal holiness, but the state of your holiness — the condition of your soul — is something that concerns your pastor all the time.

That’s why he’s watching you!

“Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.” – Hebrews 13:17.

Watching over your soul is a demanding, time-consuming job for the minister. To do it well takes hard work, as emphasized in this tidbit from Our Daily Bread:

In his book Be Free, Warren W. Wiersbe mentioned the fact that young ministers often visited the great British preacher G. Campbell Morgan to ask him the secret of his success. When someone inquired of him what he told these aspiring pastors, Morgan replied, “I always say to them the same thing — work; hard work; and again, work!” And Morgan lived up to his own advice. He would be in his study every morning at 6 o’clock, finding rich treasures out of his Bible to pass on to God’s people.

The month of October has been designated as Pastor Appreciation Month, a time when Christians purposely, thoughtfully, and heartily demonstrate their appreciation to those ministers who work hard at watching over their souls. Let me encourage you to go out of your way — and perhaps even out of your comfort zone — this month to show your pastor your sincere gratitude for keeping watch over you.
