A word of encouragement to leaders …

When I heard the response, I just smiled.

“We’ve tried that already!” is what the person said, the others nodding their heads in agreement.

“That’s okay, we’re going to try it again, only differently,” I said.

Sometimes the right and best thing to do is something that has been tried already. But it was “tried” poorly and half-heartedly. Sometimes, as a leader, you have to lead people into do-overs, but taking the time to teach them how to go about the repeated effort in a way that can get different (and better) results.

Let me encourage you to have the courage to lead others into trying again what you have confidence will work a second time when done correctly. When you patiently navigate them to a successful conclusion by doing again what needs to be done, you will be a blessing to those you lead and the equity of trust others have in you will grow.
