Who is this Person?!

One of the most frustrating experiences we can have is that of being misunderstood. No one likes to be thought of in an inaccurate way.

Imagine, then, how the Holy Spirit must feel!

The Holy Spirit is likely the most misunderstood Person in human history. He is often referred to as a power source or some mystical force rather than a Person. But look at just a few of the personal attributes of the Holy Spirit:

    • The Holy Spirit has intelligence – 1 Corinthians 2:10-11.
    • The Holy Spirit has emotions – Ephesians 4:30.
    • The Holy Spirit has a will – 1 Corinthians 12:11.
    • The Holy Spirit is good – Nehemiah 9:20.
    • The Holy Spirit creates – Job 33:4.
    • The Holy Spirit lives with/in believers – John 14:16-17.
    • The Holy Spirit sanctifies – Romans 15:16.
    • The Holy Spirit fellowships with us – 2 Corinthians 13:14.
    • The Holy Spirit helps us and prays for us – Romans 8:26.
    • The Holy Spirit intercedes for us with the Father – Romans 8:27.
    • The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus Christ – John 15:26.
    • The Holy Spirit speaks – Acts 13:2.
    • The Holy Spirit hears – John 16:13.
    • The Holy Spirit teaches and reminds us – John 14:26.
    • The Holy Spirit gives direction – Acts 8:29.
    • The Holy Spirit guides us to the truth – John 16:13.
    • The Holy Spirit encourages – Acts 9:31.
    • The holy Spirit convicts – John 16:8.
    • The Holy Spirit reveals – 1 Corinthians 2:10.
    • The Holy Spirit leads – Romans 8:14.
    • The Holy Spirit fights – Isaiah 63:10.
    • The Holy Spirit calls people to work and appoints them to office – Acts 13:2.
    • The Holy Spirit has love – Romans 15:30.
    • The Holy Spirit gives joy – Luke 10:21.
    • The Holy Spirit can be insulted – Hebrews 10:29.
    • The Holy Spirit can be lied to – Acts 5:3.

Without the Holy Spirit, we would be thoroughly unable to know God. Our relationship with the Holy Spirit is vital to our having a relationship with God the Father and for our ability to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

In 1930, King George V was slated to deliver a speech to open the naval conference in London. The speech was going to be broadcast on the radio, making it the biggest international radio broadcast to date, and the first time many people around the world would hear the king speak.

During the live broadcast, someone in the control room tripped over the generator wires that energized the network, breaking the connection. Harold Vivien, the chief control operator for the Columbia Broadcasting Company in New York, immediately grabbed the disconnected cables, restoring the circuit, channeling the king’s speech with his agitating body. Shaking from the 250 volts of electricity now flowing through him, Vivien held on for 20 minutes until the broken wire was replaced. By using his own body as a conduit, millions of people were able to hear the king speak for the first time.

In a similar way, the Holy Spirit lives in believers and enables them to know and hear the King. But the Holy Spirit is not simply a divine cable connecting us to God, He is God! Get to know Him personally, talk to and listen to Him; learn from Him and lean on Him. The more you get to know and discover who the Holy Spirit is, the closer to God and the more like Christ you will become.
