I don’t know about you, but the second statement was easy enough for me to both understand and memorize as a young child; the first statement nearly hurts my head!

Any relationship benefits from clarity and conciseness of communication. In that light, God is both clear and concise about aspects of His will for us. For example …

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

This simple statement helps us to clearly understand that God’s will for us includes our continuous expression of thankfulness to Him. God desires that our thanksgiving be continually expressed: “Be thankful in all circumstances …”

Regardless of our circumstances, it is God who is constantly sustaining us, He literally holds our lives in His hands!

“For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being,” Job 12:10.

Because of God’s constant upholding of our lives, our thankfulness to Him should be as constant!

Should be, but usually isn’t. Thus, an important benefit of a holiday like Thanksgiving Day is that it provides us with an opportunity to recalibrate our awareness of God’s goodness toward us and greatness in our lives, and serves as an impetus to reinvigorate our expression of thanksgiving to Him. It reminds us that expressing our thankfulness to God isn’t something reserved for specific celebrations, but that He is to be celebrated, and our thankfulness to and for Him expressed, constantly – “… in all circumstances …”
