If your pastor is almost annoying about this … thank him!

Any pastor doing his job properly will be so constant about encouraging the flock he leads to daily read and study their Bibles that it will almost be annoying!

If you have that kind of pastor, thank him!

It seems too few people understand how truly remarkable a treasure they have in the Bible. That’s because too few Christians fully understand what is known as the doctrine of the sufficiency of scripture, which is a fundamental tenet of the Christian faith. Theologian Wayne Grudem summarizes this doctrine as follows:

“The sufficiency of Scripture means that Scripture contained all the words of God he intended his people to have at each stage of redemptive history, and that it now contains all the words of God we need for salvation, for trusting him perfectly, and for obeying him perfectly.”

The Bible itself teaches us the value of scripture for our lives …

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work,” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires,” Hebrews 4:12.

With the Bible being such an essential tool for living, why would we not want to make time for reading and studying it every day of our lives? To not do so creates an insufficiency that will have a negative outcome for our lives.

Read your Bibles! Study them and apply what they teach! And thank your pastor for constantly reminding you to do that!
