Christmas is God piercing the dark …

Ask any kid who has tried to read a comic book past bedtime and they’ll tell you – Light always beats darkness.

As much as they try to hide the beam from the flashlight under covers, the very presence of light pierces the darkness and gives away their shenanigans.

Light always triumphs over darkness.

That is the greatness and joy of Christmas.

Before the birth of Jesus Christ, the world was a dark place of sin where death eventually won.

But then …

“The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world,” John‬ ‭1:9‬.

On that first Christmas, the Light of life was born into the world in a stable in Bethlehem. The darkness was shattered!

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it,” John‬ ‭1:5‬.

The baby born that night some 30 years later would teach us this wonderful gift from Christmas:

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life,’” John‬ ‭8:12‬.

Christmas is a celebration that the Light of life has come into the world He created and has forever shattered the darkness and that has changed everything for us:

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:8‬.

“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:13‬.

My prayer for you comes from the words of a Christmas carol, “May your Christmas be merry and bright …” bright with the light of life in the Christ of Christmas.
