Choose now what habits you’ll take into the New Year …

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone!

Even so, for some, life has changed very little. For others, 2020 has forced some radical changes (and not the good kind). But most of us have developed some new habits in response to some of the events happening this year. Digitalhub conducted a survey to find out what are some of the new habits people have picked up. Following are the top 10 habits people have developed while in self-quarantine during the pandemic:

1. Snacking more throughout the day – 40%.
2. Eating more comfort foods – 39%.
3. Not eating as many fruits and vegetables as they should – 33%.
4. Drinking too much caffeine – 32%.
5. Eating more junk food – 32%.
6. Not eating three meals a day – 31%.
7. Drinking too much alcohol – 26% (only shown to those 21+).
8. Not exercising – 25%.
9. Staying in pajamas all day – 23%.
10. Oversleeping during a work day while working from home (only shown to those WFH) – 11%.

Before 2020 rolls around, it’s important to remind ourselves of the dramatic impact habits have on our lives. Simply put, our habits make or break us!

The habits you choose to take into 2021 will directly and dramatically shape the content and quality of your New Year.

So let me suggest an exercise. Get a piece of paper and pen or pencil, or your favorite electronic gadget, and write down all of the habits you can identify in your life right now.

Be honest!

Once you’ve honestly explored how you currently live your life, and are satisfied you’ve identified all the habits you have that you can think of, take time to thoughtfully and prayerfully consider which of those habits you want to take into 2021. As you work through each existing habit, ask yourself what your life will be like if you take that habit into 2021. You might also want to explore asking what your life would be like if you break that habit and ditch it in the New Year.

After you’ve identified what habits you don’t want to take into 2021, you’ll need to develop an action plan for how you will break that habit. Be specific! If you need help from family, friends, church, pastor, or counselor then get it!

The habits that drive your life are a choice. Choose wisely, you don’t want to start a New Year with bad habits you know will cause you problems in 2021.
