A sobering question …

For years, on most days of any week I would post the following rhetorical question on one or more of my social media platforms:

“Who did you enjoy the most today: Jesus Christ, or someone else?”

The reason I posted it is because, even though the Bible clearly commands all of us to love God more than anyone else and everything else, far too consistently many of us would not say that God, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit is who we enjoyed the most on any given day.

Even in spite of this clear teaching:

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see — such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything,”‭‭ Colossians‬ ‭1:15-18‬.

If Jesus Christ has first place in our lives, if we really do love God more than spouse or children or family or career or anyone or anything else, then He will have first place. As our greatest love, and the One who comes “first in everything,” He would be our greatest joy (especially since He is our primary source of joy!).

But if Jesus isn’t “first in everything” in our lives, He won’t be our greatest joy.

When you can’t answer the question, “Who did you enjoy the most today: Jesus Christ, or someone else?” with, “Jesus Christ!” then someone or something else is in first place in your life.

To help us examine ourselves and make sure Christ has the place He alone deserves, my old question is one we should ask ourselves every day.

With that said, allow me to ask:

Who did YOU enjoy the most TODAY: Jesus Christ, or someone else?
