Things moms would never say …

Of all the words spoken to you in your lifetime, chances are that chief among them are words spoken by your mother.

When thinking about the things moms say, it’s easy to think of some things that would never come out of their mouths, like:

“How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far back?”

“Just leave all the lights on ,,, it makes the house look more cheery.”

“Let me smell that shirt — Yeah, it’s good for another week.”

“Go ahead and keep that stray dog, honey. I’ll be glad to feed and walk him every day.”

“Well, if Timmy’s mom says it’s OK, that’s good enough for me.”

“The curfew is just a general time to shoot for. It’s not like I’m running a prison around here.”

“I don’t have a tissue with me … just use your sleeve.”

“Don’t bother wearing a jacket — the wind-chill is bound to improve.”

The reason why you’d likely never hear moms say such things is because none of the above are caring statements meant to look after your best interest. What more consistently flows from the mouths of mothers are words spoken with our best interest in mind. And do you know what doing something in the best interest of another person is the definition of?

Love.

The words of mothers are remembered for a lifetime because from the moment we’re born, mom’s is the most persistent human voice affirming to us that we are loved. Then those words are backed up with a lifetime of actions that leave no doubt that that woman really does love you, immensely so!

What makes all that so profound is one of the greatest human needs is to be loved, and to love.

People celebrate Mother’s Day for different reasons, but towering above them is to say thanks for imprinting upon our being love so rich that it did much in shaping our lives.

Happy Mother’s Day!
