When people find themselves struggling with a mental health issue, or an actual mental illness, IF they reach for help beyond their families it is usually to their church leaders.

And that often freaks out their church leaders!

Not because they don’t care (in most cases), but because ministers are not educated, equipped, and properly skilled to provide care and treatment for clinical cases of mental health issues and mental illness.

BUT …

Given the FACT that ONE OUT OF FOUR Americans will experience a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year, and tether that to the fact that ministers are often “first responders” in such cases, it can easily be argued that EVERY CHURCH should have at least one person who is a trained, capable, and willing Mental Health Coach to serve as a competent “first responder” to people seeking help with mental health issues.

To help churches have a well-trained person in their congregations who are competent and capable of being a “first responder” Mental Health Coach, the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) is offering, through its Light University division, FREE training and certification for its certified Mental Health Coach first responder training program.

More than 40,000 people are currently enrolled in the program. With a goal of training at least 50,000 people, the AACC is offering FREE TUITION via FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS in the training program to the FIRST 17,500 charter churches.

A couple final notes.
