10 reasons to talk to God more than people …

Just mention the word “time” and you might immediately get a queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach.

Time seems to be something so many say they have too little of. But the fact is, a lot of us spend this finite gift poorly. And among our doling out the usages of that time, God routinely gets very little of it.

Let’s face it, most of us spend much more of our time talking to other human beings than we do the sovereign God who created and sustains us.

Maybe there are some reasons we should reverse that, and see if can learn to talk to God more than anyone else. Here are just 10 reasons for doing that:

1. The entirety of your being depends on Him. In that case, perhaps we should be talking to Him more!

“For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being,” Job 12:10.

“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs — for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need,” Acts 17:24-25.

2. He loves you more completely than anyone else can or will. God’s love for you is unconditional, perfect, unfailing, and complete.

“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! …” 1 John 3:1a.

“Give thanks to the God of heaven. His faithful love endures forever,” Psalm 136:26.

“We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them,” 1 John 4:16.

3. He’s supposed to be your greatest love. Shouldn’t the one we love the most be the one we talk to the most?

“‘Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?’ Jesus replied, ‘”You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments,'” Matthew 22:36-40.

4. God always has your best interest at heart. You will know some people in your life who, at some times, will have your best interest at heart, but not perfectly and certainly not always. But God does, even if He has to discipline you to motivate you toward what’s right and best for you.

“My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights,” Proverbs 3:11-12.

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you,” 1 Peter 5:6-7.

5. God delights in the details of your life. Some people may have an interest in some of the details of your life, but God delights in them! That’s someone you should be talking to!

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives,” Psalm 37:23.

6. God is the source of Truth you need for navigating life. Who better to talk to than the very source of Truth?

“The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever,” Psalm 119:160.

“I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob’s descendants, ‘Seek me in vain.’ I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right,” Isaiah 45:19 (NIV).

“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth,” John 17:17.

7. God has the wisdom and power for living that you need. If that’s true, shouldn’t we be talking to God a lot?

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline,” 2 Timothy 1:7.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking,” James 1:5.

“But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God,” 1 Corinthians 1:24.

“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most,” Hebrews 4:14-16.

8. To nurture your relationship with God, you need time with Him. Every relationship must be consistently nurtured to be healthy, and that means spending time together. This includes our relationship with God.

“Come close to God, and God will come close to you …” James 4:8a.

9. Worship and communing with God provides ultimate fulfillment and joy. When you believed the Good News of Jesus Christ, you found your purpose — Jesus! The only reason we exist is for Him! That’s why spending time with God fulfills us like nothing else can, and brings us joy.

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see — such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him,” Colossians 1:15-16.

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely,” Psalm 63:1-8.

“When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” John 15:10-11.

10. He is worthy of your time, attention, and devotion. No one deserves your focused attention and time like God does.

“Lord, there is no one like you! For you are great, and your name is full of power. Who would not fear you, O King of nations? That title belongs to you alone! Among all the wise people of the earth and in all the kingdoms of the world, there is no one like you,” Jeremiah 10:6-7.

“Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, ‘You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased,'” Revelation 4:9-11.

This isn’t a complete list, what are some reasons you can think of that maybe we should talk to God more than others?
